Micklewright forced out wes 48
« on: March 04, 2010, 04:43:02 PM »
Zack Micklewright (7-0 MMA, 1-0 WEC) has suffered an injury in training and has been forced out of a planned WEC 48 matchup with Alex Karalexis (10-4 MMA, 4-2 WEC).

The Boston Herald was the first to report the injury, though the exact nature of the ailment was not disclosed.

"WEC 48: Aldo vs. Faber," which takes place at ARCO Arena in Sacramento, Calif., features two title fights: featherweight champion Jose Aldo vs. ex-champ Urijah Faber and lightweight title-holder Benson Henderson vs. Donald Cerrone.

It's currently unclear if Karalexis will be granted another opponent for the WEC 48 card.

Karalexis looks to fight for the first time since March 2009. The Massachusetts had been scheduled to fight Kamal Shalorus at this past November's WEC 44 event, but a broken hand forced Karalexis out of the matchup.

A three-time UFC veteran and cast member of the original season of "The Ultimate Fighter," Karalexis has earned WEC wins over Greg McIntyre, Josh Smith, Olaf Alfonso and Thomas Denny. He has also suffered a pair of losses in contests with Bart Palaszewski and Ed Ratcliff.

Meanwhile, Micklewright had hoped to build on the success of a unanimous-decision win over former EliteXC vet Muhsin Corbbrey at this past December's WEC 45 event. The result was just the second decision of Micklewright's budding career.

Prior to his current stint in the WEC, Micklewright was the lightweight champion of the Iowa-based Glory Fighting Championships organization.
